Varsity Baseball vs. Archbishop Ryan

A 7th inning single gave Archbishop Ryan an 11-10 win over the Hawks on Thursday afternoon, denying the Prep a chance at a three game sweep of Ryan. With the loss, Prep Baseball goes to 6-1 in the Catholic League, and will look to move to 7-1 on Monday against Roman Catholic, the team the Prep earned its’ first Catholic League win of the season against in a 10-0 shutout on March 27. Against Ryan, the Prep took a 10-7 lead into the 6th inning, when 3 runs by Ryan knotted the game at 10. In the bottom of the 7th, Ryan Senior Matt Graber’s bases-loaded single pushed the winning run across the plate, giving the Raiders an 11-10 final advantage. Looking ahead, following Monday’s game, the Hawks will play their third game of the season against Roman, before a 12-day layoff leading up to a rematch with archrival La Salle, currently sitting at 5-2 in the Catholic League. The Hawks defeated the Explorers on April 2 by a score of 20-6, largely due to senior captain Tim Rafter and junior Chase Standen combining to go 7-8 with 4 RBI’s on the day.
